Piano music is timeless, elegant and deeply emotive. The ‘piano’ as we know it, is actually called the ‘pianoforte’, which translates from Italian as “soft-loud”. The inventor of the piano, Bartolomeo Cristofori (1655-1731) actually designed the piano with emotion in mind. He wanted to offer an instrument that was similar to the harpsichord, but not limited by a single volume; something much more sensual and responsive to touch, that could capture the emotive nuances and dynamic spectrum of a string ensemble. Naturally, the piano tugs on our heartstrings in a way that no other instrument can, and a well-timed piano ballad can bring a tear to the eye of even the most cynical heart.

You can use one of these songs to create a theme by having your band play an instrumental version for you to walk down the aisle to, and then play the full arrangement with the vocalist singing during the signing of the register. This works especially well if it’s a song that is meaningful for you as a couple.
